Is the ps3 worth it?

My gf wants to get me a late xmas present. Its up in the air, but shes probablly going to get me a HD DVD add on for the 360, OR a ps3.

Whatever i ask for, im sure to get.

So, is the ps3 worth it? Convince me ps3 owners. yes i have a 360 and wii already.

Sold to the man with no av.

I figure it this way. I want some sort of Hi definition movies for my all expensive setup that took a large bit of coin to bring together. All this great stuff, superb sound, digital this and that, 1080 this and that, all really doesnt matter right now if im not watching the few hd channels that are out there, or playing a game on the 360.

I really want as many ways as I can have in my hands to exploit the wonder of HD tv, and gaming. Netflix is great, and they have been offering blu ray and HD DVD for some time now, but unfortunately I have yet to jump on board either ships.

I was a lock in for the hd dvd player addon, due to the fact after i got back from my vacation i figured why not just nab it. Its only 200 bones, no big loss.

But if i can go with not only a high definition movie player, and something that will play games/music/moves/online why not go for that. Lately when shopping I force myself to walk past all the ps3's i see sitting in the cases need a good home because of all the horrible press ive heard.

But can it really be -that- bad? I doubt theyd let this investment go belly up.

However, I did buy a 3d0 when they came out too. That, my friends, was a 700 dollar mistake.

I honestly dont care about who "wins" the console war, as long as Im having fun and am not excluding any platform in my house to enjoy for as long as I play games.

But I dont want history to repeat itself like the 3d0, saturn, and jaguar ships i hopped on board of. AvP was badass on the jag tho

No one has really posted yet "THIS is the REASON to have a PS3" or the contrary. I guess thats what im looking for. The nudge over the edge.

Nudge me.

Get the PS3. Microsoft still hasn't fixed a lot of the 360 issues and the odds are pretty good it would take a shit on you within a year of buying it.

First off, ignore all the bad press the PS3 is getting. If your TV can do 1080i or 1080p, you're golden.

"THIS is the Reason to have a PS3" would probably have to come down to the games, games that aren't XB360 ports and which are written for the PS3. (My thing is action adventure games (think, Zelda) and action RPGs (think Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest viii). Those are not the types of games which are in the XB360 library, and the main reason why it is rejected by the Japanese.)

2 hours ago I was at an EB store. A guy came in, traded in some games and said he wanted the 60GB PS3. He added a few items and, bingo, his bill was over $900. He bought the extended warranty for $69.99. The sales guy said that he would need a driver's license. The guy said he had cash. "Ka-ching" went the cash register. (Man, I wish I had that kind of money burning a hole in my pocket.)

Let's say that you do get the PS3. You go down to the store. You see a brand new movie on both HD formats. Which one do you choose? Do you choose based on the case?

I say get it now if shes gonna pay for it yet if your going to pay for it, wait about a month when some nice games come out. I currently own Fight night R3, Resistance: FOM and Call of Duty 3. They all fucking rock and if you got a 1080i/p LCD or plasma...the graphics will blow your fuckin mind

Personally, I'd choose HD-DVD because I don't want to see Sony's blue ray format to become the standard.

I mean, I got nothing against the PS3, well, in the future when it actually has games I won't; but I really don't like the idea of Blue Ray becoming big.
