Is the ps3 good for media and other things?

I would like a ps3 sometime in the future when my parents get a new TV for the livingroom. I pretty much know the ps3 is somewhat better than my xbox 360 for media because of blu ray and that you can copy files from an external source onto to the ps3. can the ps3 search the web and go on media websites like Hulu,YouTube,Facebook,Ustream, and other video/Social network sites. I have a blu ray player already but I do not use it often. My family uses my xbox 360 for DVD's and netflix streaming but my friend told me the ps3 does more for media than my xbox 360. I also like some games on the ps3 like LittleBigPlanet and MAG. I'm not going to buy multi platform games for it though. Lastly,2 questions. What type of ps3 should I buy if I want to store media like music,pictures and videos (I have a small collection under 10gb but growing rapidly) and should I get google TV,Apple TV or PS3
