Is the Nokia Internet table N800 compatible with the N80?

I'd like to get an Internet tablet that will connect to my cellphone via Bluetooth, so I can access the Internet using my N80 connection. I've been to the Nokia website and it says you can connect compatible phones for Internet access, but it doesn't say which phones are compatible. I did, however, see that is uses Bluetooth 2.0. This makes me think that maybe the N80 won't work since it's the earlier BT version.

On a side note... The web browser sucks on the N80. That's to say the browser is constantly crashing. One site that I can almost never access is Ebay. It seems the browser can't deal with graphic intensive sites. Does anyone know if recent Firmware upgrades have fixed this?

Thanks!

I am guessing the N800 is compatible with all Nokia cellphones that has Bluetooth. Probably other phones too. I am getting my N800 tomorrow, so I can try to connect with my N73 and E50 then to see if it works.

Bluetooth 2.0 is backwards compatible with previous versions of Bluetooth, the only difference will be that the data won't transmit as fast. You can use the N80 as a modem over the data cable, but I've never heard of it being used over Bluetooth to an N800 no less.

Recent firmwares for the N80 have addressed the low RAM problem and helped make it less dramatic, though you'll still probably get errors and crashes even with the new firmware. Don't leave anything open when you use the web and hope for the best. If all else fails, use Opera.

Hey Zand,

Do you mind letting me know how you like the N800 after you get it? Also, can I ask where your getting it from. It might save me some time shopping the net.

Jonny,

Thanks for the tip on the Firmware update. I'll see about checking Nokia's website for the update.

I bought it from LetsTalk/NokiaUSA. I was told it would ship today and I paid for overnight shipping. I will let you know as soon as I have tried connecting with my phones.

Of course you can use the N80 as a modem over BT with the N800. You can use any phone with BT that isn't neutured.

How would you connect the N80 to the N800 via data cable?

I got my N800 last Friday, and so far I love it. My phone is a Samsung SCH-i730 PPC phone, and I successfully thether the N800 to it using a hack from over at PDAPhoneHome. Works pretty well when the phones not using the modem for something else.

I am thinking of replacing the i730 with something that's a little more phone friendly and use the N800 for the PDA functions, but I'm thinking that a phone with BT 2.0 would make the most sense so I can get the higher speed from the EVDO.

I need to use Verizon because of the family plan. I get mixed reports about the KRZR being BT 2.0, some places say it is and some say it's 1.1, and I even found one place that says it's 1.2. Neither Moto or Verizon are saying.

Anybody got a difinitive answer?

Well since we're talking about tethering the n800 with phones and you mention that the n80 can be used as a modem using the data cable one would assume you were referring to tethering it to the n800. Make sence?

That's not what I said either. We're talking about using the N80 as a modem for a PC using a data cable versus using the N80 as a modem for an N800 using a Bluetooth connection, just so we're all clear.

Don't make fun of me! I know what I'm talking about!

It would except the N800's USB port doesn't support host mode. The community is working hard on a hack, but it's not ready for prime time yet.

It worked out of the box to hook up my N800 to the internet using N73 and E50. I was asked to pair the phone with the N800 in the wizard I ran the first time i switched it on and I just had to choose T-Mobile from a list and it was configured.

i tried to ,am told it requires 2.0 its 3meg vs. 750k then i tried, it works however still cant connect to data because carrier does not support my6126 for that app.
