Is the Nielsen Ratings system flawed?

I find it flawed in a few ways. They randomly choose families to give a Nielsen Ratings Box which, tracks ratings for shows. I remember my neighbors getting a Nielsen box and the guy said they represent 100,000 views the whole system looks flawed. Only about 55% of it looks accurate.

They don't even consider factors like Age, Children, Families, it's all pretty random.

Yes it is flawed. Even if it is random, chances are you will get a fair representation of America, but still its possible to just get everyone over 60 for example.

They pay attention to age brackets (demographics) making it different than other systems.
