Is the media beating a dead horse(economy)?

Everyday I see story after story about gas prices or food prices, the bad housing market, the weak dollar, etc..

Aren't people aware of this yet? Do we have to constantly hear every single bad thing that happens? Will we hear that the economy is still growing, all be it very slowly? It this point these stories aren't news. What do you think?
