Is the line between fanservice and adult material becoming blurred?

Before anyone pulls the 'different culture' card to much, remeraber that Otaku culture is still considered deviant in Japan. It's not considered a good thing there. Most of this stuff is targeting a very specific niche in Japan.

Yes...Yes it is...I mean Personally its amazing how Drastic a differance their is in some Fan service manga..I mean Rosario+vampire is extremly tame Compared to Alice in Deadlines...I mean its jsut ridiculous I don't mind a little fan service (Like the Kind in Rosario+Vampire) But the 1st time I looked at a Alice in Deadlines book.....I almost had a heart attack! I guess im too much of a goody goody though to handle stuff like that.

This may be a bit off-topic, but when Anime News Netowork reviwed Kanon a lot, I get annoyed that they mention that it's moe, yet, it doesn't that much moe to me.

Well, the funny thing about recent notable series that have adapted visual novels is how non-perverted they mostly seem to be. Hell, Fate/Stay Night probably has the most fanservice of the ones listed so far as I know, and it is restrained to very few moments. Well, definitely not moreso than Comic Party Revolution, which was absolutely ridiculous and stupid compared to the original (albeit rather boring) series it came from.

To the best of my knowledge (and I have seen at least parts of what I'm about to talk about) the series of late that have been done by Kyoto Animation (Air/Kanon/Clannad) hardly indulge in gratuitous fanservice at all, unless you count the "moe" art style in and of itself. Which you could, but it seems to me that's setting the bar for unacceptable otaku pandering extremely low. I mean, by any reasonable standard, Haruhi Suzumiya is more perverted than them by far. So, it seems to be the case that the worst cases of what this thread is talking about is either uninspired original work or an adaptation of a mediocre manga, whereas the visual novel adaptations of late seem almost entirely interested in telling their stories. Quite ironic, really.

A ton of those games have clean versions released on PS2 for a wider audience, so it's not to unreasonable for them to made with a teenage otaku audience in mind. Besides, sad fact is plenty of those teens have already seen stuff just as if not more explicit than what is in those eroge to anime adaptations anyways.

I don't know how people are even annoyed in their moe designs.

Just cause the teen girl looks younger than she actually is, doesn't mean you have to get distracted at all, just enjoy, or at least don't immediately criticize it.
