Is the limiting magnitude for a telescope similar to that of a binocular?

Telescopes have a single primary mirror or lens while binoculars have two lenses and that increases the area to capture light. Do they have the same formula for the computation of limiting magnitude or is it a lot different? Binoculars have relatively short focal lengths, right? How does this affect limiting magnitude? All help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
