Is the JL Audio 1000/1 v2 amp pushing my Orion HCCA 10.2 to hard?

My Orion is 10 inch dual 2 ohm and the amp is turned up only half way and sub level was at 10 out of 15 but all the other settings for the sub were at 0.Once I turned it up a bit the coils started stinking up my tahoe and the dustcap was crazy hot. The sub is wired at 1 ohm but giving a 2 ohm load on the amp.Whats wrong?
