Is the iPhone really worth it?

Now with my phone over two weeks I can say I have not been happier with a phone yet. Battery life for me is OUTSTANDING! Texting friends is great with the iChat threaded style app (Yes I did "hack" my Treo do this). I use the iPod feature daily at work. Scan RSS feeds while out on smoke breaks.

I have yet had to do a "soft reset" of the phone and it is still working as the day I first turned it on.

Now just maybe add iChat, Games, custom ringtones, MMS, and multiple SMS and it would be the perfect phone for me.

I will say this phone isn't for everyone. I carried a phone (first a Treo and then a Q) and an iPod to work with me everyday. Now I'm able to carry one device that meets my needs.

iPhone battery life fucking kills. My current usage stats:

Usage: 6 Hours, 21 Minutes
Standby: 2 Days, 21 Hours

Total of 75+ hours since the last charge and I just got the 20% battery warning about 3 minutes ago.

there are cons - the recessed jack being the most annoying right now.

but

it is definitely worth it. once you live with it a bit, you realize how stupid it is to judge things based on their spec lists. it's amazing.

you think you bought your ipod for $5 more than you bought it for

and your nikes cost $5, your stereo has 70% + markup, your car has a few thousand. god you're a fucking idiot. businesses make products to make money. you never ever will find products especially in electronics with less than 15% markup. Most cell phones have far more than the % the iphone has.

are you in middle school or what?

The adjustable angle / accelerometer switching that they use in Safari will almost definitely make its way to the other apps in which it would be useful in a software update, at some point.

What do you use for RSS? I'm using Google Reader, which is what I use all the time, but I don't like that it kicks into mobile mode for the iPhone. Are you just sticking RSS feeds into a bookmarks directory?

Why is that? I have used cell phone insurance multiple times and its great. I also worked for a company that provided that service for a year or so. I think its a great option to have.

I would probably get one if I still made 6 figures, but since I don't anymore, I can't afford it. Probably not worth it till they iron out the bugs. I'd wait till generation 2. If you use all the features a lot and can afford it, go for it.

Yeah I played with Google Reader, and then the GreeseMonkey thing but just took much time.

I ended up just making a RSS bookmark directory and place bookmarks in there. Safari seems to be the fastest when I just want to pull up the headlines to read.

I'm in week 2 of my 2 week AT&T training (just got the job). So everyday for the last 10 days or so I have played with the iphone and talked with other people about it.

I get a free line with the company, but the only exception is that I cannot put an iphone on it. I can't even buy one at retail and hook it up to my line, I have to purchase the special apple iphone rate plan... this is the ONLY reason I'm not going to get one. I would not be able to use it for work, and would really have to carry 2 phones around.
