I want to buy an itrip for an ipod here in the UK but it will be for use in the USA - will it still work or are they different power/size?

The power is the product of the current multiplied by the amperage. Therefore a battery supplying 24 volts at 1 amp supplies 24 watts.
Most car batteries supply 12V in the UK but check it. Check the voltage recommended for charging your device because the other side of Ohm's law states that voltage over resistance equals current. Therefore too much voltage and BOOM.

generally YES 99% of cars are 12volts, trucks buses and lorries are 24 volts, most 4x4's are 12 volts and a very small % are 24 volts. always ask first, but 12 volts would be the standard American cars are 12 volts
