Is the Hurt Locker any good??

I am thinking of buying this tomorrow as I have heard nothing but good things about it. I like action movies although I have not seen many war movies and I am a big fan of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games if this makes a difference.

So would I like this and did anyone who seen it like it.

It's not a full on action/war film, so don't go expecting that but there is a lot of wonderful suspense in the action scenes that are there.

It's definitely worth buying, I liked everything about it except for the crap camera work. If you have a problem with motion sickness, I advise renting it first.

It's a very good film and i highly recommend it. Don't be expecting it to be anything like Modern Warfare though, THL is not about spectacle and action sequences, it's more about the tension and character storylines, both of which it does extremely well.

The Blu Ray is very good too if you've got a player. Pin sharp picture and amazing sound.

I have heard its meant to be very tense which i like.
I've heard it is meant to give the feel that a bomb can go off at anytime

It's a really good film, but not an action film. It is tense as it's about a bomb disposal unit, so there are quite a few against the clock moments to dispose of explosives.

I'd say its main focus is about the psychological effect that being a soldier has on someone, it's realistic - not a blockbuster type of film. It reminded me of Generation Kill the TV series more than anything else.

Whilst being able to appreciate the quality of the movie I did find myself looking at the clock around the halfway point. Perhaps that was just due to my not paticularly liking this genre of film but I am normally able to cope with that. The end of the movie was partcicularly gripping and the message was very poignant. Would I pay to have it on DVD? Definitely No - but worth a watch.

I remember seeing the trailer a few times and making a mental note to see it. Wasn't until the Golden Globes and all the hype regarding Oscars that I finally got around to seeing it.

It's more character studies than a war film and I would also say the film was alot different to what I'd expected after seeing the trailer.

I hate the fact that war movies/settings just dont do it for me. No matter how great the drama, action, suspense, acting or writing is; set it in a war time scenario and I just lose interest. It's a shame cause I know I'm missing out on highly praised stuff like Hurt Locker or Band of Brothers, but no matter how much I want to like them it just doesnt happen.

I must admit, I watched this knowing nothing about it. Now, I'm not huge fan of war films, but this film was fantastic! Definitely worth watching. And it really reminded me of Call Of Duty too :)

I also liked how the 'big names' in this film
were not actually in it that long, and got killed more or less in the first few minutes of seeing them
.

im wathcing it tonight on blu ray hopefully....dissapointed its not so much on the action like black hawk down but still looking forward to it!

Damn! I feel for you.

Surely character drama is just that, no matter what the setting?

I urge you to watch Band of Brothers. Just grit your teeth and force yourself to do it. There's , what, 10 episodes? Each with their own focus. Some properly pull at the heart strings.

Man up!

just watched it, its a darn good film

not all out action but i didnt get bored once, very tense with the whole explosives difusal scenes, lead actor was great

first scene made me see what troops dilema is aswell, when that guy had the mobile i was like shoot him quick before i realised he could be a civilian

can someone answer this:

whats deal with beckham? he lived? it was a similar looking kid who died? or was the kid at the end just another young kid who likes to play footy? i tihnk he lived cos he went to same soldior to play

well worth watcing though to original creator of the thread

I felt the opposite, it was a bit too unrealistic and it went for style over realism. I still thought it was a good film but I would have liked it much more had it been more like Generation Kill rather than a hollywood action film.

I did watch Generation Kill only a few weeks before seeing The Hurt Locker so perhaps that is why I was slightly disappointed with the film.

Although I enjoyed this film, I couldn't understand the critics lauding it as tense and suspenseful. The first scene had buckets of suspense (for those who have seen it) but

I found it rather predictable that this new Sergeant wasn't going to die anytime soon.

And those British PMC troops were just dumb.
