modernism and postmodernism? 1700s – Enlightenment Period exalted reason over faith as the primary source of legitimacy and authority. It began a search for the truth of life based primarily on reason and logic, not religion.

Late 1800s – Modernism focused on ‘progress’ and set out to reexamine everything and use science and discovery to find the one truth for humankind.

Mid-1900s – Postmodernism rejects the assumption that we’ll arrive at one absolute truth. Therefore, philosophy should instead focus on discussing different perceptions of reality.
