Is the chat feature on facebook free to use,or does it cost money?

I was just wondering if you have friends on facebook and they want to chat with you via instant messaging,is it free to use? I was on there earlier and I opted to close out of the instant chat feature, because I didn't know if the chat feature is free or if it costs money to use that feature?
 
Facebook chat is free and should be in the lower right corner of the screen.Just hit the green dot next to someones name and your on your way!
