Is the catalytic converter & exhaust manifold on a Mazda 6 one piece?

I have a 03 v6 M6 (over 80k miles) and I replaced the rear catalytic converter, the one connected to the manifold, last year. Now the one in the front has to be replaced. But someone told me that the one in the front is permanently connected to the exhaust manifold. So I'd have to buy a new cat & manifold as 1 piece. I don't need the manifold just the cat. Is this true or can it be unbolted like the rear?
