i worked out on a stationary bike at the gym. I chose the weight loss option which goes up in intensity, gets harder and easier in intervals, and then goes down in intensity. it is a 30 minute seting. So i rode the bike in this setting for 30 minutes. The display said that I rode 6 miles and burned 60 calories; however, on the internet riding on a stationary bike is listed as at least 250 calories. Which is right?

the calories counted on exercise equipment is not consistent. from manufacturer to manufacturer . the counters should be used as a comparison of usage on the same piece of equipnent.

If you were breathing hard and sweating the 60 calories cant be right. It will depend on the resistance setting and how fast you were pedaling.

I wouldn't worry about calories too much and concentrate on the workout. I start out with a very lite resistance at 70 rpm's for the first mile and increase the resistance a little. At the second mile I increase it a little more.

At the third mile I am warmed up and start pedaling at 70-90 rpm's with just enough resistance to get my breathing elevated to the point where I can still talk but not sing. If you need to catch your breath or your legs start to hurt reduce the resistance but keep pedaling at 70-90 rpm's

A stationary bike is a lot easier to ride for milage then the real thing.
