Is the 2009 Kawasaki KLR650 a good commuter bike?

I'm a new rider and am looking for a good bike that isn't too expensive. I took the Motorcycle Safety Course, so I guess you can say I have some experience riding. I mainly want the bike to go to school. I am 21....5'11'' and about 170lbs. I've gotten on this bike and it feels comfortable...just seems a bit too tall. Would this be a good bike for me...if not what would you recommend?

It's a nice bike for commuting, but is heavy as hell.
How about the KLX250/KLX250SM (super moto) the SM has wide street radials and larger disc brakes, other than that, both KLX's are the same.

KLX is Kawasaki

A Kawasaki KLR650 is a great bike for a bigger, heavy man, but if your short and skinny I wouldn't recommend it. the KLR650 has a stiff off road suspension, is top heavy and its not a great bike for sustained highway speeds, vibration, suspension, tires, not a perfect match for the highway.
Also the older KLR's have engine problems where they use 1 qt of oil every 400-600 miles, don't know if that problem was corrected on the 2009 model.
resale value is bad on used KLR's, dealers can't sell used ones
I would recommend the Ninja 250 instead
