i been wanting to get a first bike and looked at the ninja 250s but they are too small since i am 6' tall 170lb. then i was looking at the cbr600 and was told it was too much for a beginner so i came across the ninja 500r and suzuki gs500 and dont like the looks. Then was told that the Suzuki sv650sf is very forgiving and good beginners bike. would this be a good beginners bike ?

That is a good bike (SV650) to learn on and enjoy for years to come. I happen to learn on a CBR600 as my first bike. The CBR is a good first bike, don't let anyone with biased opinion steer you wrong. The thing to remember is self control on a motorcycle, since a careless bicyclist is no safer than a careless motorcycle rider. Go sit on each bike and see which is more comfortable for you. Both motorcycles have good power, brakes and handle. I'm not a big fan of the Ninja 250, same bike for the last 20+ years, slow, ugly and heavy.

it is but you will fast be board of it.
bikes are not like a pair of socks.
if your 6 foot tall. I would not get anything less than a 750.. Just do not be a as@hole and kill yourself on the thing.

This way you can get several years out of a 750....

The SV650 is a good bike for a beginner, but it would be an insult to call it a beginners only bike like the 250R. The SV has become a very popular track bike and some tracks even offer an SV650 only class because they do so well on the track. The first guy that said you would get bored of it and that you are too tall for a 650...you should become a little more informed before making statements like that. First off, the SV650 is not a bike anyone that is a real rider would get bored of. Also I don't understand this misconception that a bike gets taller as the displacement increases. this is not the case. An SV650 is the same seat height as most 1000cc sport bikes.
