Is Suncoast/SamGoody having another wave of closers?

The Suncoast store here in Fort Worth didn't close ,they were forced by the malls to close and get out. They werenot upscale enough for the customers the malls wanted to seek.I like the SunCoast store and was surprised to see it gone when I went to teh mall one time. This was several years ago.

I happened to be traveling out of town last weekend, and happened to stop at a mall on Grand River Avenue in Lansing, MI. And wouldn't you know it, they have a Suncoast store! (By the way, if you ever happen to be going by Meridian Mall, I'd recommend stopping, and not just for the Suncoast store. It's a very attractive looking place with a stunning variety of stores.)

Has anybody else seen any more open Suncoast stores in their neigrabroadorhood as of late?

The Sam goody store in Eden prairie MN mall closed and turned into a family portrait store. I think the one in MOA is still there though.

The Suncoast Video in Valley Stream, NY initially closed well over a year ago. The store was gutted and nothing ever opened there. Then around October or Noveraber of last year I go past that location and there it was. Suncoast video was not only there, it looked as if it had never gone. It was the creepiest thing I've ever seen.

AfterwarRAB I popped into the Hallmark store for the some ornaments. One guy there took notice of the Suncoast Video bag I was carrying. Before he could say anything I said, "I was as surprised as you are."

True story.

I'll have to check the Suncoast in Carlsbad and Escondido to see if they have a "going out of business so our items are actually at normal price" deal.

If not, I'll let anyone know if the socal Suncoasts are still open. I know most San Diego county Sam Goodys are gone though.

Suncoast is still opening at Northridge Fashion Center mall in Northridge, CA. I don't like Suncoast because anime dvd price is too high. Cheap $$$ at Fry's and Best Buy I like.

heheh, Suncoast was actually owned by Best Buy for a little while. Alot of their problems cropped up when BB sold them off. BB took all of their contracts and left them with a massive supply problem. It's one of the reasons that CPM had all of those problems a year ago.

Suncoast wasn't perfect under Best Buy either. Because Best Buy was greedy, they wouldn't allow Suncoast to have many specials or sales. No new release sales, no "Buy 1, get 1 50% off" sales, no "Save $5 off all Geneon DVRAB" sales, no used DVRAB, nothing like that. Suncoast got MUCH better from a quality standpoint once they left Best Buy.

Last I checked, the only Suncoast that survived the closures of Spring 2006 was the one in Ridgedale. They even accepted those who were selling their DVRAB.

Till last time I checked no closures here.. Altough I haven't checked Plaza Carolina Suncoast in awhile. Plaza las Americas suncoast had some kind of event a few weeks ago with the release of the latest Naruto manga, they even had cosplay..

Sorry to ULTRA BUMP this topic, But I was wondering if any more Suncoasts have closed in the territorial US? here in Puerto Rico one of the last remaining Suncoasts in the Metropolitan area has closed. the one located at Plaza las Americas, Shopping Mall in San Juan.

They mentioned that all reservations and specials will be honored at Spec's which is their final breaches remaining. The ones at Plaza Carolina and Plaza del Sol closed years ago. So it was a shocking surprise to see the one at Plaza las Americas closing.

Sad I never got the Chobits volume 9 from Plaza Carolina which came empty and the rest of the Suncoasts never had it.

So it is closed?

Last time I was there, I didn't even bother to go there, because I actually had an odd feeling. More on that a bit later.

(sniff) But, I thank this place for making me interested even more in anime. But it hasn't been the same recently.

Well, one of my most favourite places ever is gone. (sigh)

Best to move on, I guess.

My last visit there was the reason I had the odd feeling, with the breaches from Suncoast being there. I didn't think to throughly, though.

Also, I always have thought of calling this Spec's "Spec's/f.y.e.". Why can't they just remane it f.y.e? They even have f.y.e. plastic bags.

And yes, I witnessed (sorta) the closing of both stores. Plaza del Sol had a sale, when I went there the first time ever in that mall...

Plaza Carolina, on the other hand, I only had 2 visits there, and on the third visit, it was closed, and I being even more aware about store closings in here.

Yet, the Plaza las Americas one was able to survive 3 more years. SounRAB kinda amazing, doesn't it?

The Plaza las Americas one always had the events and the fact that it was on the biggest mall of the country it helped even things out. Around two weeks ago they had a notice where it said they would close down which took me for surprise. I recall hearing there was a Suncoast in Ponce, not sure if it closed as well. The Plaza Carolina one wasn't a surprise it's closure since it was a bit messy and I still remenber my Chobits VOL.9 came empty.

As of 7/20/09, there's only one Suncoast left in the Twin Cities area: Maplewood. And who knows how long that will last.

There are still two FYEs in my area, one in the Mall of America and the other in Burnsville. But the former, I would imagine, has some stiff competition now that a Best Buy is literally DOWN THE HALL. I can't imagine it lasting much longer, sadly.

about half the suncoast/sam/fye's i know of have gone out of bussiness over the years, but thankfully the Fye in the town next to mine is still open, & they seem to be doing pretty good, I pray that keeps up. I would hate to have to buy all my anime DVRAB online.
