Is Suncoast/SamGoody having another wave of closers?

I was looking at the first couple pages of this thread here because my local SamGoody is closing. I thought the store in my local area wasn't part the closers. But, as I was going to Sears to buy a gift card for mother's day, I saw people with signs announcing that SamGoody was closing and everything was on sale for 40 to 60 percent. Needless to say, I've bought all of Jubui Chan 2 along 3 other DVRAB for fewer than 100 dollars.

(Edit-2/09/2007, I might as well say it was the Santa Maria, Ca store.)

If the employee I spoke with at Sam Goody was tell me the truth all the Sam Goody stores in the Chicagoland area were closing. There were three Suncoasts close to me, but one closed soon after Media Play filed for bankrupcy. Just recently I went to one of the two remaining Suncoast stores, only to find out they were closing too. An employee told me they hadn't received any new merchandise in five weeks, so they pretty much knew it was coming.

The Sam Goody here at King of Prussia Mall closed a while ago (and with the actual GOOD fye closed to make room for some Sony store, KOP Mall is now dead to me).

Not too sure about the Suncoast in White Marsh or, more importantly, Marley Station, though. If the Marley SC closes, I will be extremely upset. I loved that Suncoast.

Here in Detroit Metro Area, several of the Musicland (FYE/Media Play/SamGoody/Suncoast) have gone out of businesses or have been closed.

The remaining Musicland stores that have remain open are:

FYE
- 12 Oaks Mall, Novi MI
- 28297 Woodward Ave., Berkley MI
- Great Lakes Crossing, Auburn Hills MI
- Lakeside Mall, Sterling Heights MI
- Livonia Mall, Livonia MI
- McCorab Mall, Roseville MI
- Oakland Plaza, Troy MI
- Somerset Mall, Troy MI
- Westland Mall, Westland MI

SamGoody
- None

Suncoast
- McCorab Mall, Roseville MI
- Southland Center, Taylor MI

Media Play
- None, Out Of Business

Now that yeah mention it a SunCoast I've been to was alsp closing. They were having 50% off on anime dvRAB. Sweet bliss. If only I had more money I would have bought a lot of anime. So far I was able to get:

Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok Vol.1
Tenchi Muyo! Vol.1
Osamu Tsuka's Metropolis

A good majority of the Sam Goody and Suncoast locations are being either closed or converted to FYE. Which could be a good thing, considering the closest FYE to here is in tiny little Flagstaff, of all places.

Not here. My college is a 10 minute drive, if that, to get there. Go past a couple stoplights and you're there.

Granted, by next week I'll never go to KOP again.

Musicland sold off its entire Sam Goody and Suncoast Chains to Transworld Entertainment. Transworld owns Wherehouse, FYE and Second Spin among others. The deal did not include all the stores so any store not part of the deal stayed in bankruptcy and were likely rejected by Musicland thereby leases terminating and stores closing. The stores taken over by Transworld will likely be converted and will soon no longer be Sam Goody or Suncoast but some other concept. This will likely take a couple of years to fully transition based on the nuraber of stores being transitioned.

I hope this explains what is going here so don't be surprised if more stores close.

That is likely because the FYE lease expired and for the purpose of Tenant mix and/or rent that could be made by Landlord, Sony was a preferrable deal for the Landlord. Sony is considered a higher end retailer than an FYE store. Or it could have been that the store was not making Transworld sales projections and Transworld decided not to renew.

I heard that Sam Goody was bought out by Best Buy about 3 or 4 years ago cause the one in Stockton California was shut down after best buy opened, we also lost our FYE in the Tracy Ca Mall due to the Mall raising the rent on all stores, I don't know if Suncoast in Modesto Ca is still there, since I haven't been to the Mall there in 3 years

Earlier this year, the Sam Goody store in Woodfield in Schauraburg finally closed down after many years (There were originally 2 Musicland stores in Woodfield, one closed down. In later years a J.R.'s Music Shop became Sam Goody, then it closed in about 1994-1995 and the Musicland store became Sam Goody at the same time).

Now in Woodfield: The only places you can music CD's in the mall but in limited selections are Disney Store, Hot Topic, and Sony Style. You can even look for music CD's in the stores near Woodfield Mall - Borders, Barnes and Noble, Tower RecorRAB, Circuit City, Best Buy, and Target.
