Is spay can (auto) lacquer good enough for a bicycle?
I have a 20 year old bike that I want to give a new life. I did some research and I know that the only way to get a paint job that's as durable as the original is to get it professionally done with polyurethane or powder coat. I really want to do it myself though.
So is automotive spay can paint good enough? Is it really so bad that it will chip off at the slightest ding even when cured? ( The acrylic Lacquer stuff )
Should I step up to a wheel paint or engine enamel?
What about using a lacquer primer and a lacquer paint with an enamel clear coat?
Also, I want to paint the bike white and then tape off what stays white and add blue. Do I need to re-prime after i tape? how long should I wait until I put tape on the white?
I will of course be removing all old paint down to bare metal. ( Going to use a wire wheel on my angle grinder I think ).
