Is racism connected to economics?

Do you think the majority of people who practice racism/discrimination generally tend to be from wealthier or poorer backgrounds, on average? What is your opinion based on your experience?
@ Sol,

you said it!

I think economics has a little to do with it, but not much. The majority who practice racism/discrimination come from average families..I know a white girl who was poor but hated mexicans and some blacks but she didn't know why or her reason wasn't a sufficient enough reason for me. But that b showed her tail when Obama won the election; living in a red state is tough during elections, especially when some of your white friends you thought were cool, show their true feelings.

i grew up comfortably, but in a very mixed area of brooklyn. im from a italian and lebanese family. my mother is olive skinned, and my father is *extremely* dark. out of 9 kids, only 2 of us came out light skinned, me being one of them. who am i to point fingers at anyone, when within my family and friends that are like family, you can see people of all skin tones? people are people.

i dont even see how money comes into play.

nope, media portation & crime statistics portrayed from the said ethnic groups.
but economics causes the people to do the crimes, wide difference in income.
This is where the majority of crime springs from - not from religion, not from society, not from race but economics.

Racism, discrimination, bigotry, all stem from distorted perceptions, thoughts and FEAR. Unfortunately, many have coupled this with their "control" of economics which negatively impacts the lives and survival of others.
