Is playing cricket on turf different to playing on synthetic?

I have heard that playing cricket on turf wickets is better than synthetic and I was just wondering why this is and what is different about it. I also want to know if it is actually better than syntheic.
Thanks

Synthetic pitches are one paced, unless they get wet, then they become slippery and dangerous and the ball just skids about. Much more of a challenge to play on turf, with movements of the seam, deterioration of the pitch resulting in more spin and so on.
