is peak flow meter reader an accurate measure of asthma?

I've been ill the last few days with a viral throat infection apparently according to one doctor. another doctor thinks it might be asthma even though I have never had any breathing problems in the past. Im 23 years old and 5,11 (71) with no one in my family ever having asthma

according to the peak flow meter I should be getting a score of around 640 for normal. However most of the time I am around 350 - 560 (highest I have achieved) averaging 450, which is apparently bad. I have to measure my reading over this week, apparently I need to be with 80%-100% of 640 to not have asthma, I'm barley in touching distance.

Im in good fitness and currently in training for a half marathon and can run 1.5 miles in 11 Min's.

If i get diagnosed with asthma all my life goals are in ruin I couldn't join the fire service, Police or the RAF.

My illness is pretty bad since I have been doing these test coughing my guts up in the process , (all I wanted was some antibiotics from the doctor and a lot of people I know have the same illness as me) could my illness be having an effect the readings on the peak flow meter?
