Is Panasonic Lumix a good digital camera?

I have a Canon EOS SLR camera. It takes great pictures but just too large and heavy, and you have to be prepared before taking any photos. I want to buy another smaller digital camera so I can carry it daily and also can take high quality pictures close to SLR camera.
 
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ 35 is decent.It's a bridge camera. A step above those credit card size cameras, but still not a D-SLR. Others would be the Nikon Coolpix P 90, and the Fujifilm Finepix S2100HD.They have more control than your typical point and shoot.
