Is our technological advancement really a healthy thing?

Considering my short life span so far, it really does seem that a vast majority of human advancements over the past 20 years have been entirely technological. Is this really a good thing? In some ways it is: medical technology has improved, etc.

But in many ways, has the human species really improved as a result of advancing technologies? I mean, we can now manage our bank accounts from a cell phone instead of going to the bank, which makes us more efficient, but what do we do with this extra time? Produce more in other ways or go post what we're having for dinner on facebook and watch our DVR'ed tv shows?

Is our advancement as a species becoming more narrow minded, leaving behind many other aspects of potential human development?
