include 'economics' and 'politics'? in the curriculum starting in the 4th grade? rather than teaching it bit by bit throughout high school? wherein only those who go on to higher institutions of learning get a good and better understanding of at least a percentage of what is important in this country today.
Why is there a need for "gifted" students anyway? If we taught something as aforementioned, perhaps there would be even more 'gifted' students in the long run.

(Of course some of them already know, and only as an example, but in Maryland, 8th graders are taught what 'deductions' are on a payroll check. They are also taught what 'gross income' is as opposed to 'net pay'.~~~I would offer that this subject could well be taught as early as the 4th grade.)

Just suggestions. How do feel about more challenging and useful curriculums? Are our young people learning enough about what will affect them later in life ? just in case they do Not go to college?

If you teach 8th graders that 'deductions' on a payroll check are actually taxes imposed by the liberlas on hard working Americans, how could you expect them to vote for the Liberlas when they reach voting age of 18?

Naah, better lets keep the kids ignorant.

Along with personal finance, and GOVERNMENT perhaps more than one semester of Government by some of the answerers on here :) That should also go into depth about what the Constitution, our rights, liberties, freedoms and National Sovereignty actually mean to each and every one of us.

Now is a good time to issue vouchers and do away with public schools. They are pitiful.. All you have to do is listen to our youth..
