My son will be nine as of next year. He really wants a cell phone. I have been throwing around the idea of getting him a cell with restrictions, you can control their line online. The reason why i've chosen next year is because that is when winter sports : basketball, wrestling, swimming...etc. starts up big time for him and pay phones are few and far between to contact me. My husband thanks i'm crazy and honestly part of me thinks the thought is ridiculous ...different times I suppose from when I was a child.
I see kids in his class this year (2nd grade) walking out of the school chatting on their cell.
I don't know, parents what do you think?
Yes he most certainly does not go anywhere alone (unless I'm dropping him off at practice) He is not allowed to go to the park alone/with a friend until he is ten....maybe.

First of all, your English was somewhat difficult to read through and I totally disagree with your judgment. These days, 9 years old is a perfect age to start owning a cell phone. Family plans aren't even that expensive, only $10 more a month to add a line to your existing contract. Pay phones are not popular nor a good option since you constantly have to refill your minutes while using cheap, outdated phones.

Just get your son a phone with your family plan. The free phones that some with these plans are a whole lot better with a whole lot more features than those cheap pay phones. If you are worried about your son losing it or screwing around with it, then I suggest you be a parent and teach him to be responsible. I see this from the child's point of view. Don't ruin your child's childhood. Get him a phone. It is just one of those things that everyone depends on nowadays.
