Is my Verizon Wireless phone upgrade free?

I have a Samsung Alias, the first one. I've had my phone for almost two years, so I'm in for an upgrade. I really want a different phone than the alias 2, ew. Would it be free to, say upgrade to a BlackBerry that's 40 dollars with online discount?
Do you get ANY phone free for upgrading? If not, how much discount do you get?
