Is my own book, written by me especially for my friend, a nice birthday present?

I wanted to do something really special for my best friend's 18th birthday present (and graduation present I guess), and she likes stuff that have special meanings, personal and she loves home-made presents. So I wrote a story according to her tastes [nothing too heavy, fun], printed it and bound it. Do you think it's a suitable present? Do you think I should stick to something more conventional and more expensive? After all, it is her 18th birthday..
