Is my iPhone 4 factory unlocked?

I just got a 16GB iPhone4 as a gift and I want to check whether it is factory unlocked without cutting my SIM to a microSIM and checking it...risky if it turns out to be locked!

Iphones can only be connected to verizon or att when brand new. What is the modem firmware? Go to settings and check. If it starts with a 3 (ex. 3.10.01) then it is not unlockable.
