Is My Exercise Bike Giving Inaccurate Calorie Readings?? Help!?

I have an exercise bike and I usually use it for around 30-60 minutes a day. I do it at a medium pace not to fast but not particular slow either however the bikes monitor that tells me how long I have been doing it for how fast I'm going and the calories burnt ect... only says that I am burning 100 calories in an hour but when I check other sites for the average amount of calories burnt from an exercise bike in an hour it is more than double this..... Is my exercise bike probably correct or is it not giving an accurate calorie reading?

Calorie readings on most exercise machines are usually approximate at best. Go with what feels good. If you're trying to lose weight, go with the mirror and tape-measure; if you're just trying to keep fit, then see if you're getting bigger or smaller.

There are ways of calculating it, but I must admit to not being very up on those.

Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.

its wrong.
you'd burn a 100cals in an hr just sitting on it and doing nothing.
also, almost all exercise equipment that tells you how many calories you burn are including the calories that your body would use if you did nothing. so the readings are misleading anyway.

Does your bike as you your weight? If not, then it is probably calculating an average calorie loss for someone around 130-150 (depends- but it should say in the manual).
The exercise bike usually doesn't burn that many calories unless you're going super fast and getting your heart rate up. I would follow the info you found on the web,if it takes your weight into consideration.

It really depends on how fast you are doing it, but at a moderate pace you should be burning at least 300-400 an hour. Once again, its all about how fast you are going.
