ok i'll give you a summary.
So around the 1930-40's there is a boy named Tommy Knight. He lives on a farm with his mother. He is 17. He loves a girl named Lucinda. But it is unrequited love. Plus she has a snobby boyfriend. Most of the teenage boys in town call him poor and despise him for it. Well He has a neighbor, a young girl named Annie Strickland. He is not too fond of her, he often thinks of her as a skinny, little pest, with red hair. She is, as he is, poor and is made fun of lot by most people. She tells him how He deserves better than Lucinda and that she loves him, not Lucinda. Then they go to the movies as friends, and Tommy gets into a fight, and A rich guy smacks annie. Lucinda is there, and Tells her violent boyfriend shes leaving him. She goes over and kisses tommy, and hugs him, (while Annie is watching) It starts to rain. Annie runs away into an alley, Tommy catches up to her but she just runs away, he tried to follow when Lucinda calls him. 6 months passes, Lucinda is in college and there is someone else. Tommy then knows it was a mistake, (what he did to Annie) So he goes to her house and tries to apologize, but Annie's mom just says Annie is sick. Then after about half a mile of walking, Annie catches up to Tommy, and he tells her he loves her, but he must leave. 6 years passes and Tommy comes back, he is amazed at the sight of Annie, He tells her he has to go see Lucinda. Annie gets mad and drops him off at Lucindas and leaves. Lucinda sees Tommy and wants to marry him, he denies, and tells her how everything between them was a mistake and he had to get that off his chest. He then goes to a local diner, and sees Annie's back, He asks her for water, which she throws at him. And she makes a compliment about Who he is going to marry, if not Lucinda. He Pulls out a small black box and says "Whoever says yes and takes this box" and smiles up at Annie. She jumps over the counter on him yelling Yes i will Marry you!.......they lived happily ever after....the end
