My betta fish is acting really strange. He lays on his side on the rocks and doesnt' move. When i move the bowl, he moves a little bit, like moves his fins a little, then sinks to the bottom again. When I came in teh room, he was smashing his head on teh rocks repeatedly like he was having a seizure. Could he be on the verge of dying?

i went to the pet store
and saw a betta just slowly sink to the bottom of the very little container
and lie on his/her side
it was sad

back to your question
my betta when he had little space and no filter/heater
he acted like that
but not banging his head
If i was in a sense of humor mood
i probably wud've said he's suffering a headache and needs some Tylenol
but...i think if he was going to pass, he would be still
(i wish I cud see his strange behavior..the smashin head thing...it's odd)
if he doesnt have a heater, or filter....i suggest raise his water temp. to 82 deg.
and try to make him excited by showing him his food (dont put it in there)
if he's unresponsive
you just have to wait his behavior out I guess.
Don't move him anywhere
cause u might stress him.
I hope everythign works out...good luck.

How old is your betta?
Does he have a heater?
Is there a fillter?
Is his tank 2.5 gallons or greater?
Who often do you feed him and how much?
Do you fast him once a week?
Have you tested the tank for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates?

If you see that his stomach is extended like this betta

He maybe constipated and needs to be put in a heated tank and not fed for 3 days

Yes, that is exactly what is happening, I'm very sorry =(.

I have had bettas forever, and you can always tell that they are dying when this happens.

Just make sure that you make his last few hours the best of his life.
