Is mountain biking's difficulty overrated?

I've been taking my five year old on trails with his 16" BMX POS from Toys R Us with only a front brake the past month and beside having to walk up and down various sections there's been nothing that's stopped us. The other days some dude scoffed at our chances of reaching the 6 mile mark on the trail but we did it, turned around and rode back and not a sore muscle to be heard the next day. So what's the big deal if you're going slow?

Maybe that hardcore MTB dude is jealous that a 5 year old is having an easier time than him.

It all depends on how hard the trails your riding on are, there are some that are nice easy fun trails for the family. On the other hand there are trails like a Whistler Mountain Bike park that are VERY hard you should look up the bike park and you will see what i mean.
