Is mobile IM free on your cellphone??

Today i just got a cellphone.. On my phone i can go on mobile IM. some people have told me that it is free since i have unlimited text messaging. Will it cost me money? im really scared because i have already done it and i dont want my dad to take my picture messaging away again.

I have the same exact phone. It goes with your calling/texting plan.
it uses your minutes.
