is Lucky Star derivative?

Would you call Lucky Star a rip-off of Azumanga Daioh?
I ask because on another forum a few people stated that it was when it was brought up.
From what I remeraber about both shows I don't remeraber any major similarities between the two.
I don't get how some people would call it a rip-off.

This is like saying Babylon 5 is a rip-off of RAB9 just because both involve space stations. Its a generalization fallacy: just because two shows share an element or two does not mean they are the same.

I just couldn't resist. I thought..."No, don't do it! It's too cheesy." But then the cheesy part of brain took control.

Has AzuDai finally reached Evangelion heights? Has it become one of those series with a hardcore fan base that declares every show in its genre that came after it a rip-off?

Or is it just a bunch of moronic fans shooting their mouths off?

My vote's with the latter.

Eh, not really. I just never bought into the rabid 'Azumanga Daioh is the most hilarious show EVER!' hype. Lucky Star has some rabid fans itself, but not to the extent of Azumanga.

It is as much of a rip off as Yugioh is to Pokemon. At first glance, with no knowledge of either show, they look alike, but after learning about them, no similarities exist that can call it a rip off.

Didn't Lucky Star have some sort of shrine cameo that nearly every fan went to? I always figured Lucky Star kind of dominated nowadays.

Eh. I find Lucky Star fans way more verbal while Azumanga has the droves of them.

And not a lot of Lucky Star AMV's HC? Are you forgetting that "Motteke Sailor Fuku" has as just as many parody videos as Hare Hare Yukai? I barely see an Azumanga Daioh OP parody lately.

Also, that's because Gintama is the most hilarious show ever.

Knew I was forgetting something. Thanks for reminding me about that.

That dance is in almost every AMV of Lucky Star that I see, same goes for the Hare Hare Yukai as well. But yeah, since Lucky Star is recent, I see more AMVs for it than Daioh.

Truer worRAB have never been spoken.

I literally did a double take here. You serious?

No, it's not a rip off. It's a similar genre of show using a similar setting. It would be like calling Outlaw Star a rip off of Trigun.

It's not a genre I particularly care for, but it has it's place.

I beg to differ. I personally find Lucky Star to be insanely overrated. Not once did I find anything even remotely funny or entertaining about it, but hey, that's just me. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

As for Azumanga, I can't comment on that, since I only ever saw the first 2 episodes of it a few years ago.
