Is Lord of the Rings a good book?

I got the books for free a couple of years ago, and I tried to read the first one. It was really lame, and I didn't even make it through the first chapter. Now that I'm older though, and have a more mature sense of things, do you think I'd like it? What did you think of it?

Lord of the Rings is one of those books it takes a while to get into. The first chapter or so of the first book are completely different to the rest of it, and it does get so much better.

Once you get into it, you won't be able to put it down.

I first read it when I was 9, going on 10 and I just finished re-reading it, 10 years later; I didn't find it any less enjoyable, if anything I found it more enjoyable reading now I'm older as it was easier to read and I probably understood it a lot more too!

Definitely recommend giving it another go!

It's an excellent book. It does start out a little slow, and it isn't everyone's cup of tea. You might try reading The Hobbit first, as it is a quicker read and actually takes place before Lord of the Rings.

If you make if through the first few chapters, it picks up steam.

NO! its horrible! most people think that people who like harry potter, etc. would like it but dont believe them! I hate that book and if you didnt like it before i can assure you that you will not like it now

I found it exciting and adventurous. But you have to be patient and have an open mind for war. Overall I would highly recommend it though.

Read the first chapter again. If it doesn't hold your interest then go read Twilight.
