Is live bait legal in your state for bass fishing?

I don't know if goldfish are legal here (Alabama), but worms, minnows, and other similar live bait are definitely legal.
 
If it is, do you use it?
If it isn't do you still use it?

I went fishing yesterday and fished next to a guy that was using goldfish (illegally). He didnt catch anymore fish than I did using lures only, but his catches were so effortless.
any opinions?
