I have a 99 chevy malibu and i need a new water pump. Ive known that i needed a new water pump for a about 2 months now but i havent had the money so i just let it sit in my driveway. But yesterday and today i noticed that theres leaking under the front of my car and i thought that was kind of weird because i havent driven the car in almost 2 months.Whatever is leaking from the car appears to be water but im not sure. Is leaking under the car normal since it needs a new water pump or could there be something else wrong with my car?

well, You could have popped a freeze plug. If its been leaking and you have added only water, and it got below freezing weather, the water freezing (and expanding) may have pushed out a freeze plug. Freeze plugs are designed to pop out in such circumstances to avoid cracking the engine block.

If it is the water pump, get it changed as soon as you get a few hundred dollars to spare. I wouldn't drive it much at all unless you fill the radiator every time that car moves. You can blow up the whole engine if it runs dry. That would cost you two thousand dollars to fix.

It's completely normal for a sitting car to drain the antifreeze out of the little hole on the bottom of the water pump because the seal is out. It will drain the fluid out of the engine and radiator until it gets below that level. Don't drive it to the shop without checking it and at least putting in water if the shop isn't too far because it's going to just blow it out under pressure anyway. Don't do that to get by though, water has a lower boiling point than anti freeze.

From your testimony I'd would believe that if it rained or snowed where you are lately, its melting into water molecules and running through the water vents.

the water pump shaft seal has worn out along with the rest of the water pump and this is where the water is leaking from, this is normally the first sign that a water pump is on the way out. don't drive unless u top up water and have water pump changed asap.
