Lakers (BQ's inside)? reportedly there are several teams that are pursuing Lamar hard. The Spurs are the frontrunners right now reportedly offering him a contract of $10-12 million per year.

I honestly think that this is a Ploy by the Spurs to prevent the Lakers from re-signing Odom. Tempting him with a ridiculous contract offer which he's shown he's not Sufficient enough for. Seriously, $10-12 mill. contract for a player of Lamar's caliber is something he cannot Repudiate.

So here are my questions:


Question 1:Do you think the Spurs are Pursuing him because they want to prevent the Lakers from getting him by any means necessary? Or do you think the Spurs like him that much of a player to offer him such a Lucrative contract.


Question2:Even though Lamar publically showed interest in staying in LA, do you think he can turn down such a tempting offer from the Spurs or even the Suns (both showed great interest).

Question3: How will the Lakers cope if Odom subsequently does decide to sign with the Spurs.

Question 4: Do you think Lamar (resembling Ariza's situation) will try to Distort the Lakers out of the Maximum money by using other teams as Leverage to maximize their value?

1. Yes, the Spurs are just trying to sabotage anything that would help us.
2. Yes, he can turn down that deal, because seriously who'd rather play in San Antonio than L.A.???
3. They will still win 55+ games but the bench won't be as strong.
4.No, Lamar is mature, and has been in the league for a while, and he's stated that he wants to come back because this place feels like home to him.
 
what are you talking about. Lamar deserved a contract that large, when Lamar wants to be he can become the most dominant player in the league, i dont know anyone who can get 19 points 14 rebounds 3 blocks and 3 assists and handle the rock a 6'10 off the bench on any given night. Lamar thrives in an environment where he can be a sidekick and dominate quietly, san antonio is that place.



i love how you laker fans still don't appreciate Lamar even after he was a cornerstone in the championship run. if not for kobe he would have won MVP of that series. send him to detroit sign and trade for prince, we will give him the respect he deserves.
 
1....No pro team in the world is going to throw out 20-24 million just to keep 1 player away from another team. The spurs will be in the luxury tax this year so what the pay Odom they will match in fines. Also the his expiring Contract is worth more that the 10-12 million, so for him to sign for that much is not that far fetched. I would image he will sign for less since he is on the down side of his career.

#2 I think if LA is in the same ball park as any other offer he will stay, I don't see him leaving 10-15 mil on the table to stay.

#3 If Odom signs else where they will have to make a deal to get another player of his caliber, I don't know who it would be or how they do it, but I don't see them lose Odom and not making a move since Kobe is extending.

#4 Odom has already signed his big contract, he will try to get the most money he can I'm sure but he will not try to leverage other offers to get more from the Lakers like ariza did. Again I'm sure he will not leave a ton of money on the table, if he can get 3/$40mil somewhere else and the lakers are offering 3/25-30Mil, Im sure he will be wearing a different uniform.
 
1) If the Spurs are willing to offer Odom that much cash just to keep him off the Lakers, doesn't that mean he's worth it? This isn't baseball, where the Yankees can throw $20 million at a free agent pitcher just to keep him from signing with the Red Sox. Baskeball has a salary cap, and the Spurs have a budget. If they pay Odom $12 million, you can be sure they think they're going to get $12 million worth of value out of him.

2) Sure he can. Players have turned down tempting offers before to stay with their old team. Granted, it doesn't happen very often... most of the time, players follow the money. The last player I remember to take less money was Brent Barry, who took a pay cut of a couple of million dollars in 2004 to go from the Sonics to the Spurs. The huge difference, of course, is that Barry was going from a horrible team to a championship contender, while Odom would be leaving the defending champions to go to a team that is a couple of notches below them.

3) I'm sure they'll manage. They're one of the deepest teams in the league, and no problem attracting quality talent.

4) I think the word you want is "extort", and Odom would be a fool not to find out what other teams are willing to offer him. As discussed before, under the salary cap rules the Lakers can offer Odom more money then any other team in the league if they really want to keep him. If they lowball him, that's a sign that they really don't want him back that badly. In that case, why wouldn't you go to another team that really does want you?
