Is "kinky" really THAT sexual now? I thought it was for braided hair?

When I was little I would occasionally have my mom braid my hair and then eventually I would take it out and it would be kind of wavy. My mom called my hair "kinky". And recently I was talking about it with a friend (I'm 13) and she was like, "Oh baby." and all of that. So this is NOT a troll, I'm serious. Should I stop saying "kinky" to describe braided hair? Why is it so sexual? Was it always this sexual?
