Is January 1st or March 21st the official beginning of a year?

Spring is considered the first season, so wouldn't it start on March 21st or is it technically January 1st which is considered to be the first month of the year?

Actually, I have to agree with you. It seems silly to celebrate the New Year in the middle of Winter and so close to Christmas! Your suggestion of celebrating it at the beginning of Spring is a great idea! I've also thought of celebrating it at the beginning of September -- Labor Day -- and have schools start at that time...The New Year would coincide with the beginning of the School Year.

But I doubt that you and I can change the calendar! We just have to live with the New Year starting on Jan. ! -- stupid as it is! We can have our own 'private New Year's' celebrations wherever we want. Let's do it with fireworks. I LOVE fireworks!
