Is it wise to buy a 2003 Ford Focus and how long will it last me?

I am planning on buying my first car very soon and I found a 5 speed manual transmission Ford Focus that I really like. I'm in San Diego right now and will be needing to drive the car to Norfolk, VA. which I believe is around a 3,000 mile drive. Is this a wise decision?

Totally depends on the condition of the car. Cars obviously tend to last longer with regular oil changes, filter changes, and belt replacements - stuff like that. If the previous owner has kept up with the easy maintenance, then those are rather dependable cars in my opinion. Especially check for oil leaks since it's a stick and most people are morons and don't know how to drive those. Rear main seal leaks are common if someone had be stalling the car out a whole bunch.
