Is it weird to like a guy for...?

So I've liked this guy for almost 2 years now and the first few months I liked him and we talked some but then summer came and we went to different schools. Now we're in the same school and he's known I liked him for this long but we haven't talked in person at all yet...just online. He's a bit shy and doesn't fully know the whole situation and I'm a little shy myself and I'm not really sure what he thinks of everything. We steer clear of that subject when we do talk online. So any advice on what to do?
 
you need to talk to him in person.. you should just get up courage and say hi that's all it takes to start a real conversation. from there anything can happen!
