Is it weird to have a phobia of birds, and why do I have it?

I have a phobia of birds, since before I can remember.
I had a phobia of them before, and then an incident happened and now I can't even be within two square miles of one.
what happened was my cat brought a live bird into the house, and because the bird was dumb (or something, I don't know the average IQ for a bird), it didn't know how to escape. Because I already had a phobia, I just sat still, too scared to move, and just screamed as loudly as possible.
It's sort of like claustraphobia (which I don't have), because if there is a bird outside, I don't mind it, but if it's inside, I freak.
My mum also has a phobia of birds, so if one was in the room with us, we would both just sit there together screaming.
Is it weird to be scared or birds? And is it also weird for me to be scared of feathers and them flapping??

Phobias are learned behaviours, you learned to be afraid of birds because your mother is afraid. Being afraid of birds is quite a common phobia. If you want to cure it go and see a hypnotist or cognitive behaviour therapist, I'm sure it will be quite simple. I used to be scared of spiders, my Dad was scared of spiders, I would cry if I had one in the same room as me but now I'm an adult with kids of my own I try to be calm for their sake.

You have good insight into your phobia so try to overcome it would be my advice. The birds won't hurt you, as you already know.
