Is it weird to be this old and scared to sleep at home by yourself?

I'm 22.

Like, this is how bad it is.

I HATE having room mates. Sometimes they can be really fun, but I've had bad experiences with all of them. I really want my own place I can have to myself. My rules, my decorations, everything MINE!

But I won't do it because I'm scared to be by myself at night. I go through hell!
When I stay home by myself, I freak out. I start hearing things that I normally wouldn't notice, start imagining scary things, lock all of the doors and windows, walk around with a flash light and check under the beds and in the closets, then question whether or not it'd be a good idea to lock the doors because if someone's in the house it would stand in my way of getting out. Stuff like that.

Is that normal for someone my age?
Or do I need to get help?

I'm not scared of ghosts and zombies (unless I watch a movie about them) or things that go 'bump' in the night. It's more of a realistic fear (like someone breaking in and killing me). What do you people think?
