Is it weird that I'm 23 and have a promise ring?

I have been reading up on what hand to wear it on and I guess everyone thinks promise rings are for high school kids. What do you think? Is it stupid, lame, sweet, weird, etc? Just getting some opinions, it's not that he won't commit. I sort of asked for the ring because I liked it. He loves to buy me jewelry for special occasions so when I got this ring for Christmas I asked him what it meant. He said it meant that he loved me and wanted everyone to know, so I wear it on my left ring finger. Any comments?
We have been together for 3 1/2 years and we live together. He knows I am not ready for a family or anything serious until after I finish school. He loves seeing the ring on my hand, it's so adorable.
