Is it very hard to change a brake caliber on a 1997 ford explorer?

Your "caliper" may be stuck. After you remove the pads, you can "exercise" the piston in and out to clean off the muck that may be on the sides of the seals and on piston. Easy job. Replacement is even easier. You never changed your brake fluid, did ya'??? READ your owner's manual about this. Brake fluid spoils as it gets old and must be renewed. Good luck!!

Usually when a caliper goes bad it leaks. If it's not leaking, it may just need the guide pins greased. If this doesn't fix the problem, replacing the caliper is no different than changing the pads but with an extra step, disconnecting the brake line. Then just bleed the brakes

The caliper is held on by 2 bolts and very easy to change. The main thing is you will have to bleed the brakes after you change it out because you have to change the brake line
