as citizens? Some people just can't stop complaining about paying taxes which keep the government running, build and maintain the infrastructure, protect our health and welfare, defend us against enemies, protect our environment, etc.

Is it unpatriotic to complain about "having" to support our country?
To Ruth; Please explain what you are implying.
To Jack; Illegals I can see but poor Americans? What's wrong with helping poor Americans?
To Ruth; thanks for the clarification. That's what I thought you meant. It proves your ignorance beyond doubt.
To Ruth; Ignorant and clueless apparently. You're ignorant for assuming that I don't pay taxes and that's why I asked the question. Good luck.

One of the things I loved in my former job as admissions Nurse for a Florida nursing home was meeting with a prospective new resident's family from back in New York, Michigan, or some other northern state with excellent social services and consumer protections. These folks would arrive in their large and lovely late model cars, jauntily sporting rightie bumper stickers, to go over the expenses Granny was likely to incur during her residency. It would be an unending chorus of "We have to pay for THAT!?!? But in Michigan, Social Services provides that!" I never actually said it, but was always yearning to say "Yes, here in Florida we're very proud of having no state income tax and very low property taxes -- we don't believe in government handouts."

I suppose they go back to New York or Michigan, whine about how awful and expensive Florida is, and then go vote for the candidate that promises to lower taxes and end government handouts. Reality must not intrude on the ideal.

People who don't pay taxes aren't qualified to judge.

Free speech is patriotic. Government enslavement is not.

Being good stewards of the Peoples money is what an elected official is suppose to do. Now when they tax and spend, the public should be outraged and respond in kind, not by whining and complaining, but by voting the corruption out of office.

I don't think people complain so much about supporting the country, they don't like supporting poor Americans. Or illegal mexican children who are allowed to go to school here, get free health care and government assistance

EDIT:
Whats wrong with helping the poor is they don't help themselves. We can't give them welfare for the rest of their lives

The whiners are simply philosophically opposed to taxation and government services and want you to be to. But they never describe the world in which we would live with out them, instead they harp on the myth of the welfare queen and the very real, but very small (as a percentage) amount of silly pork-barrel earmarks. We spend more on the national debt every year than all of the social programs for the poor and earmarks put together.

What they really want is an end to public education, medicare, medicaid, and social security. They want an end to public highways. They want an end to all business regulation, environmental controls. Even zoning laws

After a couple of generations we would be a country of a tiny super-rich elite living behind walled off compounds and the rest of the uneducated masses living in a third world cesspool. The super rich would be complaining on the sorry state of the poor not having even the most basic skills for them to hire. They would be complaining of elderly and disabled beggars in the streets. They would be complaining of rampant crime and slums. They would resist all attempts to address these problems through collective will - believing that those people are getting just what those people deserved and that they themselves bear no responsibility for the sorry state of things.

yes. Taxing and spending is why we have a government, to perform acts for the common good that citizens can't perform themselves. If you don't want to be a part of our country move to another, but stop your whining.

look at it this way, if there were no poor class there would be no wealthy class, if there were no democrats there would be no republicans, no hot no cold, no george bush no complaining whining !

Yes, those who are complaining should get the hell out of this country and see what it is like living in the slums of Mexico. We live in a damn good country. I don't mind paying taxes but I'm tired of paying for food stamps that I don't even get to use (I don't need them by the way)!
