Is it unhealthy for my puppy to have eaten several different food brands within

his first year? When I first adopted my puppy back in October, I didn't do much research into the qualities and prices of dog food, and so my puppy (now 6.5 months) has been on several different types of food. He went from the food the rescue fed him to Innova for two months. However, I could not afford Innova, and switched to Nutro's Natural Choice. After reading terrible stories about Nutro, I quickly switched to Nature's Recipe which I picked quickly since it was cheap and wheat/corn/by-product free.

Recently, I've put my foot down and decided that I want to invest into a very high quality good, which is a little more pricey. My co-worker says I'm going to damage my dog by continuing to change his food. Now everytime I've changed it, it's been a slow gradual percentage change over several days.

Will this really damage my dog? He's been on his current food for a month, and has never experienced unhealthy symptoms through the food changes.

I can't see how it would, unless you continue to change it for the rest of his life.

My puppy's food's been changed a few times, and he seems to be doing fine.

No...You're fine. As long as you change gradually...and your dog reacts fine to the change....no harm done

If your dog hasn't exhibited any bad reactions...he's probably ok.and unless he has some food allergies, the changes in food won't hurt. I use Nature's Recipe myself, and have for the last year...my dog has no food issues, shiny coat, clear eyes...I will stick with it. I do add a couple of tablespoons of organic canned meat....but,,,,in answer to your question is it unhealthy to keep changing....no. Good luck.
